What are bio-identical hormones?

Bio-identical hormones have a chemical structure identical to human hormones but are chemically synthesized, such as progesterone, estriol, and estradiol. Non-bio-identical hormones are not structurally identical to human hormones and may either be chemically synthesized, such as medroxy-progesterone acetate, or derived from a non-human source, such as conjugated equine estrogens.
